Over the past ten months, the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the very notion of what it means to be a modern credit union. And as a result of a limited number of in-branch opportunities and an increased focus on our digital platforms, our team has chosen to make an essential change to our physical footprint in Central Texas.
On Monday, April 5, we will permanently close the University Commons branch of Amplify Credit Union. While service at this location had been temporarily discontinued since March 2020 as part of our COVID-19 response plan, we have now determined the University Commons branch will not re-open.
The decision to close any Amplify Credit Union location is not made lightly. As we adjusted our services in response to the ongoing pandemic, our leadership took this opportunity to evaluate our members’ transaction patterns. This analysis helped us understand the capacity of our other branches and the impact a permanent change would have on our Round Rock and Georgetown communities.
Ultimately, we concluded that the ongoing investments we have made to our digital channels – as well as the presence of our La Frontera branch six miles south – would ensure that we can continue to serve our members effectively. This means that our decision to close the University Commons branch is rooted in our desire to allocate our resources where they can do the most good for our members, not because of any financial hardship on the part of the credit union.
As we take the necessary first steps in closing our University Commons branch, here are a few of the ways we will ensure a quality experience for our members:
- We are adjusting the number of on-site team members at our La Frontera branch to provide additional support for in-person banking.
- We have also built a new resource for members looking to transition to online transactions. Our How To Bank Online page highlights ways that existing members can deposit checks, transfer funds, and open applications directly from our online or mobile banking platforms.
- Finally, we will reopen our Cedar Park branch in Spring 2021 to better serve Central Texas.
Finally, for those of you who have built lasting relationships with our University Commons team, we are happy to share that those team members have already begun to transition to other parts of our organization. Many departments – including our loan servicing teams – are already benefitting from the skills and experiences our University Commons team has developed over the years.
As always, we encourage those of you with questions or concerns to reach out to our leadership team directly using the Contact Amplify Leadership form on our website. We appreciate the continued opportunity to serve you and look forward to all that the future holds.
