Amplify helps brighten local family’s holiday season
The holiday season is a time of giving and this past weekend, Amplify Credit Union employees came together to give a special gift to a family in need.
Every year the Austin American-Statesman chooses families for its Season for Caring program and this year, we chose to “adopt” Jaqueline Murorunkwere and her five children, including Eric (19), Claudine (16), Isaac (15), Faustin (14) and Cedric (14 months). Having recently escaped domestic violence, the family needed safe, permanent housing and reliable transportation to work and school. Caritas of Austin is helping the family secure housing, but they’ll need to fill their new residence with household items and still face the challenge of reliable transportation. That’s where Amplify Credit Union came in.
Over the course of two weeks, our team went to work securing transportation for the family, including reliable vehicles for Jacqueline and Eric to traverse work, school and childcare for the family of six. In addition, Amplify donated Chromebooks to aid in the four oldest children’s school work and a new car seat for fast-growing toddler Cedric. Finally, Amplify’s employees came together, donating new kitchen items, furniture, gift cards and much more to help the family feel at home.
As Amplify prepared to share this holiday gift, the family had no idea what was in store. Together they entered our Esperanza Crossing branch greeted by Amplify employees with open arms. Awestruck after opening the presents around the tree, we walked outside for the big reveal… where 19-year-old Eric was the first to realize what those big bows on the cars meant. Check out this video to see what that special moment meant for this family and learn more about their story from the Austin American-Statesman.
This holiday season, we all want to give and individually we can help, but together, we can change lives. It’s a privilege to know that together with our members and employees, Amplify Credit Union made this life-changing moment happen for the Murorunkwere Family. All it takes is a moment of kindness and thoughtfulness to make someone’s day. In an hour, it can change lives.
