Amplify Credit Union announces decision in trademark dispute, moves forward with community engagement endeavors

AUSTIN, Texas – March 6, 2019 – Today, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rendered a decision that will result in the denial of Amplify Credit Union’s application for the trademark of “Amplify” for “charitable fundraising services.”

That application was filed in 2016 after I Live Here I Give Here (ILHIGH) sought to obtain exclusive use of the term “Amplify” for charitable fundraising services, which Amplify Credit Union opposed based on the credit union’s use of the term for charitable activities since adopting its name in 2006. This decision does not affect trademarks held by the credit union for any other purpose and does not prevent the organization from engaging in philanthropic programs or corporate social responsibility endeavors connected to its brand.

“Throughout this dispute, we’ve maintained strong support for the mission and purpose of I Live Here I Give Here while remaining committed to our obligation to protect our members’ assets,” said Paul Trylko, President and CEO of Amplify Credit Union. “Looking ahead, we will continue to uphold the cooperative principle of care and concern for community, actively supporting initiatives to create a Safe Place to Call Home for Central Texans.”

Building on its 50-year history of community engagement, Amplify recently announced a Safe Place to Call Home as the focus for its philanthropic and social impact endeavors. Accordingly, the credit union has undertaken a variety of activities that support a safe place to call home for those in need. Notably, Amplify recently supported the Austin American-Statesman’s Season for Caring program, donating reliable transportation for a single mother escaping domestic violence with her five children as well as household goods to help the family furnish its new residence. Looking ahead, Amplify Credit Union will continue to actively support the community and looks forward to working alongside all the entities, including I Live Here I Give Here, that are driving positive impact for Central Texas.
