Message: "Your connection has expired."
You will be automatically signed off after a period of 10 minutes of inactivity.
Online Banking has many built-in
security features to help ensure that your financial information
is kept private and secure. One of these security features is that
you will be automatically signed off of your session with Online
Banking after a period of 10 minutes of inactivity. This feature
comes into play, for instance, in the event that you walk away
from your computer without signing yourself off — it is there
to prevent someone else from accessing your accounts in your absence.
What this means is that if you have not communicated with the Online
Banking server for 10 minutes your session will be terminated and
you will have to return to the Sign On section to sign on again.
Technically, communicating with the server means you have actually
clicked on one of the function buttons on Online Banking (like 'Transfer',
'Accounts', 'Statement', etc.). When you click on the 'Back' button
on your browser, this is not considered communicating with the server
since it is merely reloading a page from your browser cache, not
from the server.
What if 10 minutes hasn't passed and you see this error message?
If you get the "Connection Expired" message unexpectedly (i.e., you're sure it hasn't been 10 minutes) it may be that you have set up your browser to prompt you before accepting cookies. It is fine to do this, however, one of the main functions of the cookie that is placed on your computer when you access Online Banking is to regulate the 10-minute security timer. If you were prompted to accept the cookie and opted not to, the timer may not work properly and you will be plagued with this error message. To continue using Online Banking, you'll have to sign off and sign back on — and remember to accept the cookie when you are prompted.
